PositionConservation Technician- Restoration or Land Management Crew Member
LocationSouth Lake Tahoe, California
Salary$11.28 per hour
DurationFrom approximately May 5, 2008 (or June 2, 2008) – November 7, 2008.
Start date dependent on crew
Primary DutiesThis is labor-intensive and physically demanding work. Work as an integral member of a six-person crew on natural resource projects on California Tahoe Conservancy properties. Primary projects and activities will focus on ecological restoration and revegetation, soil erosion control, forest management, and project and warehouse maintenance. Participate in safety talks for specific projects. Climbing/roping of trees may be required, with in-house training to be provided. Drive workers to and from work sites in State vehicles, which in some cases may require a Class B license. Assume responsibility for the care, maintenance, and security of State tools, property and equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Ability to work safely and cooperatively in a group setting under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to perform manual labor in rough terrain, lift heavy objects, and work for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Upper division students or graduates majoring in natural resource related degree.
  • Good public relation skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with operation and maintenance of chainsaws, wood chippers, hand tools, and climbing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret assessor parcel maps, identify property boundaries, and use various land survey instruments, i.e., metal detector, compass, transit, level, stadia rod and measuring wheel.
